Thanks so much for continuing the updates, Amber. I think of you guys often. Maybe when you have some time, post some new pictures of the little rascal.

Cheers!

Jan. 20,
Marty is HUGE!!!! He isn't a chubby, just super long! I can not believe how much weight he's gained. We hope to get his shots and neutering done by mid February, if the vet his health. Happy New Year to all who made it possible for Marty to see 2010. His hair from where he was shaved is still a little stubby and awkwardly growing in- haha. He's on a strict pumpkin/wet food diet, and LOVING that he gets to eat allllll the time to gain more weight. His new favorite toy is wrapping paper!! He's still working on growing out that big, bushy tail that I am soooo in love with.
Marty is doing FABULOUS to say the least. He is SO happy and loving life. He is so loved and here solely because of your help! Thank you so much for making it possible for me to wake up to a little kitten licking my face or biting my toes. I'll update once we schedule his vet visits to finalize his healing. Take care! :)

Glad to hear everyone will be warm and safe in Florida. Might not be as fun as you had hoped but it keeps you alive and healthy to enjoy better trips later. I hope you have a wonderful holiday in spite of the weather.

Yeah, we didn't expect the weather to be so awful. I've talked to Brad and as of now, he's not going to even attempt the blizzard, so they are both staying warm in Florida! Happy holidays to everyone and thanks for the concern :)

I am in South Carolina and I know it's mighty cold here. I have friends in the northern climates too. I have to admit if this was my baby so fresh out of a major surgery I don't think I would be traveling that far with him. I understand your concerns Bug. I do hope Brad chooses to stay home, the traveling weather is not good for humans or animals.

Amber, tell Brad to stay home and stay safe rather than risking the trip to CT. I've been talking to a lot of folks up that way that say it's really bad.

I just realized I wrote "Becky" on the previous post when I meant Amber. Sorry about that.

Hey Becky? Sorry for being so concerned here, but what about the massive blizzard that's blowing through Washington, Connecticut, Rhode Island, etc? Airports have shut down, roads are really bad and even people that live in these cities can't get to the shopping malls. Some places don't even have power. The storms started out in South Carolina. Maybe both Brad and Marty should stay put until things get better?

Amber,

Anything we can do to help on the forum, just ask. Is Marty really OK enough to travel? That sounds like an awful long way for him at this point (driving?). Tell them to be careful and make sure there's a vet there that could help -- just in case.

Merry Christmas to all of you -- you too Becky and Amy!

Hi Bug, yes many vets are brainwashed...well not really brainwashed, it's a bottom dollar issue. We all know they get commission for every bag or can of clinical food they sell. There are very few vets who will help educate you on natural diets but science proves that while our animals are domesticated their biological needs have not changed. Cats and dogs are obligate carnivores, they do not raid corn, wheat or soy fields and rice paddies to get their required nutrients. They eat the prey, prey eats and processes the grains and veggies for them, simple as that, just how nature intended. They have been eating prey since before we domesticated them, they eat prey whenever they have the chance, and feral cats and dogs live quite well on prey. Vets know that if animals were eating naturally their services would be needed less and less.

I am glad you directed Amber to a forum where she can get some good diet education. Many animals can be saved, quality greatly improved, and life span increased, starting with what we put in their mouths...not to mention it's nicer to the wallet in the long run.

Handipets, I am in total agreement with you. I am very aware of Honest Kitchen, and if Prowl was available in my country, I'd be buying it. I also use EVO wet/dry and am a big believer in home-cooked plus supplements and for those with no health issues, raw plus supplements. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to find a vet that hasn't been brainwashed by the companies that make clinical food. You pretty much need to seek out a holistic vet or an animal nutritionist and that costs more $$$. I had emailed Amber in reply to an email she sent me with the address of a forum I'm a part of. There are many experienced people there who could help her figure out feeding if the vets are unwilling to budge from their regimen of "vet food." I hadn't received a further reply so I just figured she got it.

Can you also put the credit card donation link back up for me? It's the only way I can help out.

Thanks!

Bug, I really like your input in these comments. In emails I suggested that Amber research some high quality commercial diets and also some home made ones. Personally we use Honest Kitchen Dehydrated food. It's a wet food preparation and more than worth the price. I have honestly saved lives with this food, it can be fed by syringe to those who have dental, sinus, tongue or throat issues. Can be made thicker for regular cats. It's even safe for humans to eat..but it doesn't taste very good to humans :) It's easy on the digestive system, packed with everything a cat is suppose to eat. Here is the link: http://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/prowl

I'm a huge believer in natural ancestral diets and supplements as a way to handle special needs animals (including elderly)

We have found that Evo Grain Free dry food, Prowl by Honest kitchen and a good selection of raw (or cooked for some cats) meats keeps our special ones healthy, our healthy ones sleek and muscular, and though expensive the trade off is far fewer trips to the vets and less costly care when you do have to go to the vet.

Yes, Bug, I am going to put up another Widget. The prescription food was quite costly and unfortunately he was sensitive to it so it was a wasted expense. He of course needs careful aftercare which is a strain on the wallet. I would like to make sure he has all the shots and neuter since that is going to be just as important to his total recovery as the surgery. I think I'll go ahead and put one up, Amber did say she thought she would need some help. We all pretty much know how much neuters cost when done by a vet and he will have to be done by a vet no a low cost clinic because of his special needs. Shots..we can all estimate that too based on our own experiences with shot rounds. I think $200 should cover a neuter, shots and any additional food/supplements he should need while healing.
